Most people living in the region of Manaparai in southern India do not have any major possessions but try to earn a living as day laborers in the fields. But in times like these, when people wait for the monsoon in vain, the harvests are meager and poverty spreads rapidly. The consequence is that fewer people have access to water, food and an education.

People`s loss of hope for a better future is to blame for both psychological and physical abuse as well as alcohol addiction. Despite their hard work, many parents cannot afford to send their children to school even though an education would give these families a reason to hope for a better future.
